We have just had a run of below zero weather this week. It was 40 below zero in Embarass, MN this morning and it was minus 21 degrees where I am at. Here’s how we deal with it up here.
Brian
60 above zero: Floridians turn on the heat. Minnesotans plant gardens.
50 above zero: Californians shiver uncontrollably. People are
sunbathing in Duluth .
40 above zero: Import cars won’t start. Minnesotans drive with the
sunroof open.
32 above zero: Distilled water freezes. The water in Bemidji gets
thicker.
20 above zero: New Mexicans don long johns, parkas and wool hats &
mittens. Minnesotans throw on a flannel shirt.
15 above zero: New York landlords finally turn on the heat. People
in Minnesota have one last cookout before it gets cold.
Zero: People in Miami all die. Minnesotans close the windows.
10 below zero: Californians fly away to Mexico . Minnesotans dig
their winter coats out of storage.
25 below zero: Hollywood disintegrates. Girl Scouts in Minnesota
still selling cookies door to door.
40 below zero: Washington , D.C. finally runs out of hot air. People
in Minnesota let their dogs sleep indoors.
100 below zero: Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Minnesotans get
upset because the Mini-Van won’t start.
460 below zero: ALL atomic motion stops (absolute zero on the Kelvin
scale). People in Minnesota can be heard to say, “Cold ’nuff fer ya?”
500 below zero: Hell freezes over. Minnesota public schools open 2
hours late.
OK, I know I took a few weeks off from this but know I’m back at it to finish up the Mainstream List. Here’s your thought for the week:
Do you think in Texas they say Remember the “Alamo Ring”?
See ya next week!
If you subscribe to the Square Dance ABC email then you know it has been quite busy this week with talk of the Oprah show and all. What I am trying to get at is it was brought up on one of the emails that maybe square dancing should look for sponsors. One caller, who I forget it was, said that he would not be opposed to wearing a vest or shirt with the sponsors on them while calling. Now what I will propose is that we work the sponsors into the calls. (and no I’m not serious but play along with me) Let’s try: “Walk and your local Dodge Dealer” or how about “Slip the Clutch, and if you’re clutch is slipping then come on down to AAMCO Transmissions. OK, I got this thing started, let’s see how far we can take it.

As I write this on December 21, 2008, we have just had another 4″ of snow and right now the temp is minus 10 degrees. I think we will have a white Christmas in Minnesota. I would like to quote John Lennon’s song, Happy Christmas, “A very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year. Let’s hope it’s a good one, without any fear.”
My best to each and every one of you.
