The Key Word is Exist.

What I would Love to Hear is Doing Great!

Square Dancing is built around a Group of People. A caller is nothing if they doesn't have a group of people who support them.

I have yet to meet a Caller who doesn't promote the highest level they call. They thereby take away from the bottom level of their pyramid.

Another thing I've noticed in the last years that has always been there, but Advanced looks at calls in a different way than we were taught.

We were taught to hear a call and react. Calls came fast and furious and pushed you to the limit. They expect every call to be dissected and analyzed before it's done.

We were of the Simon Says. And, if you got caught anticipating you sawed the limb off behind you. Now everything has to be cued and timed so if you do everything perfect you can win every time. Only the Best Callers can entertain you.

My favorite dance is still an Amateur Night. The guy is dead so I can't hurt his feelings. We were in a Square of people we didn't know, and this guy couldn't carry a tune in a bushel basket and he swallowed half the words. I knew the song and figure so when somebody said, "What!" I said what the call was. Then someone said, "I think he said," totally wrong, but rather than try to correct I went along then someone said something else. Totally wrong, but we were dancing what was being guessed and never stopped dancing. Or, laughing either. My Sides and face hurt and those people became friends for life!

Norman:
I do agree with you to a point. I do think there is room for PLUS level and above. In this neck of the woods we have PLUS, Advanced & Challange clubs and they continue to exist so it must be working. I do not know of any caller that is teaching the "one-floor" dances even though some are members of the ACA. I don't know what a Plain Vanilla DoSaDo is anymore, although I soon re-learn it every fall when the lessons come back around.

Callers who call upper levels will disagree with me, but I think that a class should be danced just as you want the Club to dance. If you want rounds and lines then they will be learned as you add your square dance movements.

Once you join the Club anything that is added should be added during the dance. People should come because they might miss something, not to keep in practice what they know.

I couldn't understand why ACA wanted to form. That is until I ran into Plua and Advanced Clubs.

ACA had a good idea, but it's callers who called Advanced found it impossible to give it up. Therefore there never was a one floor dance.

They talk about Plain Vanilla. I don't think there is such a thing. I would consider Plain Lazy!(I'm becoming that very quickly!)

What is a Plain Vanilla Dosado. One of the first movements we all teach. So somebody explain a Plain Vanilla Dosado!

You should post the URL. I did find it by searching. The idea is to stop preaching to the chior and find the new people who will join us. I do know a caller who has been successful with Square Dance ABC and has continued with the full mainstream program for one group. I find it hard to beleive that square dancing (and rounds too) is still the best kept secret around. Anyway, thanks for writing.

Hopefully we can get some interaction. squaredancing.com had a good set up for a forum with subjects and threads. But, when we started to get some interaction it was shut down.

Part of Square Dancing's problem is that people want to preach to the Choir or be part of the Choir.

I do have a Blog at Ewa Ready Square Dance.

I only keep a few blogs posted. It's the way I think Square Dancing should be. Rather than learn everything and then dance. Not know everything and have some room to play instead of using the whole book every dance!

I'm not posting the URL if your to lazy to find it you probably won't like what I have to say either so it would be a waste of your Time!

So Bring on some good idea's!
